The Fiveways Artists 2013

The Fiveways Artists Group first pioneered the concept of Open Houses back in 1981, and has proved to be a group which continues to expand the original Open House idea, embracing new concepts and challenges whilst keeping a distinct local identity.

The Fiveways area is completely unique in its number of resident artists within a footfall of each other and the amount of contemporary art and artists within this small locality is truly incredible...It probably even beats St.Ives!

Fiveways is a wonderful Brighton community which has its own personality and masses of thriving local businesses and this year the group wanted to develop their links with these businesses.

'We decided to have a Fiveways Artists magazine published this year as we wanted to re-define the group's identity. The magazine will hopefully give residents a greater opportunity to connect with the open houses and local businesses which have supported us. The idea is to get everyone in Fiveways to feel involved in these unique open house exhibitions which attract so many people to the area each year.'

The group's ethos has always been to make art accessible to as many people as possible, enabling artists to take their work to a wide and varied audience.

May is the most vibrant month for our creative community and 2013 will be very exciting with 25 open house venues, new members opening for the first time, pop-up gluten-free garden cafes, stone-carving, printing, forging, pottery, watercolour and even iPad drawing demonstrations. There will also be outdoor choir singing and Kimai movement performances, Shed instillations, open studios, beautiful gardens...and plenty of bunting and cup-cakes in the right places!
