Fiveways Music Scene

‘Fantastic' was the considered opinion of all those who listened to Hangleton Brass band performing at St Matthias Church on Saturday 14 June.  The band performed a toe-tapping programme of classical and modern pieces.  My daughter and I were particularly looking forward to the John Williams theme, ‘Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark', although this was perhaps topped by a splendid encore of ‘Singin' in the Rain', with many of the audience singing along and tapping their feet. Many thanks are due to Shelagh Burton from St Matthias for organizing such a great evening of entertainment.

The next musical event at St Matthias Church will be the second Amateur Concert, on 19 July, following the Hollingbury Park Avenue Street Party. The Amateur Concert is back due to popular demand and is certain to be another highly enjoyable evening.  With complimentary refreshments during the interval, it is also excellent value.  Do come along and enjoy the Fiveways community spirit.  If you would like to help or take part, please let me know.

St Matthias Church community are fundraising towards rebuilding their ninety-year-old pipe organ.  On completion of the works, professional organist James Lloyd Thomas - organist at Christchurch, Eastbourne and the University of Sussex - will be playing for a Celebratory Organ Recital in the autumn, so there's plenty to look forward to.  I hope to see you there.
