Local residents Julie Angel and Diane Rogers have produced an award winning new art product ‘Learn to Paint .... Watercolour' in conjunction with major art manufacturer Winsor & Newton
The story starts when an unusual art lesson was introduced into a secure unit to teach a group of challenging teenagers. The ‘I do you do' teaching method employed and developed by local resident and art teacher Julie Angel, proved so successful that Julie got together with Fiveways artist Diane Rogers, to form Julie Angel & Co Ltd., and together with their team, developed the idea into a commercial art product.
The concept was simple, given the correct materials and shown how, the chances of producing a successful painting are greatly increased.
Partnering with Winsor & Newton, the world famous manufacturer of art materials, ensured good quality materials and resulted in an excellent product: ‘Learn to Paint ... watercolour.' These unique fully comprehensive painting kits contain everything needed to complete two beautiful watercolours. In fact each kit contains over £30 worth of product   including an instructional DVD, 2 watercolour boards, 2 brushes, 6 tubes paint and a palette, enabling even the complete beginner to achieve a successful painting.
Despite containing over £30 worth of materials, each kit retails for just £14.99 and is extremely good value and makes an ideal gift.
Many of the 12 images in the first series feature local Sussex landmarks such as the Seven Sisters, Ashdown Forest, Jill Windmill the South Downs and Friston Forest. A picture taken on honeymoon in the Seychelles by Diane over 21 years ago, however, inspired the painting ‘Tropical Paradise'.
Julie received a special recognition award for innovation for the  ' Learn to Paint ... water colour' at the 2008 BFIIN Awards held in Cardiff earlier this year and was also shortlisted for the Brighton Innovation Awards 2008.
As part of a Learn to Paint tour 2008, the Julie Angel & Co team recently held free trial painting events at Borders in Churchill Square and Oxford St. London. These events proved a great success and great fun by all.
At present kits are stocked in Hobbycraft stores, The Range, many good art shops and online at www.julieangelandco.com
Currently also in development are many product ideas including a Learn to Paint DVD set for children. Art education is a main focus for Julie, who has an ambition to start a Children's Specialist Art School in Brighton.
